November 27 2001 Dahab Egypt

Happy Belated Thanksgiving Everyone! I've again missed my favorite holiday. I didn't do anything especially "Thanksgivingish" - even having a McFalaffel from McDonalds as part of my evening meal after watching the Karnak Sound and Light Show. I then decided I would find NFL football, and on the suggestion of a friend, went to the Five Star American Sheraton Resort. I figured this American establishment would have nice satellite TV and piped in NFL Thanksgiving Football and Americans sitting around watching it. Well, no dice. Instead, they had a belly dancer and families sitting around smoking sheesha. Ended up having some British guys buy me beer in the British Pub down the road. Something about 40-something men meeting backpackers - it strokes their memories of youth and if you threaten to leave, they threaten to buy you beer so they can hear your tales of travel, and themselves reminisce. A fair trade I'd say!

Updated the journal with what I've been up to in Egypt. Off to Kenya on Friday - where I'll be little more than a pygmie....
